What do you expect from those youth who live in poverty but lack proper guidance in their life? Exceptions aside, poverty can be one of the major reasons forcing such youth to get involved into criminal activities. Loot, a Nepali movie by director Nischal Basnet, centres on the same issue, the involvement of younger generation into criminal activities and growing lawlessness in Kathmandu, the city of dreams.
Loot is a story of five guys suffering from poverty who find easy way of earning money in life, through bank robbery. Haaku Kaale (Saugat Malla) makes a plan to earn a huge amount of money. To execute his plan, he needs a gang. For this, he is in search of other boys who are in need of money. In this process, Kale meets a local thief (Prateek Raj Neupane), Naresh ‘Nare’ (Karma) a gambler, Gopal Gurung ‘Gople’ (Daya Hang Rai) and Jagat (Sushil Raj Pandey) a lover. In addition, these sufferers of poverty become friends and develop plans of bank robbery. However, they are shown fighting with each other constantly and they lack trust among each other. Are they able to fulfil their quest of achieving success and earning money in life? You have to watch the entire movie for this.
Each character in the movie has portrayed emotion like tension and aspects like dream, hope and failure successfully. Malla, as the leader of the gang and a dreamer stands out in the entire movie as he has very strongly presented this character. Karma has done justice to his role of a sentimental yet clever person. Rai is the funniest character of all who makes you laugh aloud through his foolish acts. Pandey who has performed the role Reecha Sharma’s lover remains serious most of the time and it suits his character. Meanwhile, Neupane with scruffy looks and long hair fits to the character of a robber. Sharma is a true representation of a typical Nepali girlfriend and has done her part well.
The script of the movie does not flow smoothly, however. The scenes in the movie are presented abruptly. Meanwhile the director is unable to let the characters grow properly throughout the movie. The characters appear abruptly and there is no sufficient background information on them.
The item number Udhreko Choli, a sentimental song Mera Ti Khusi Haru, and a thematic song Paisa Paisa are some of the entertaining numbers in the movie. An average entertainer!
